Hi. I just wanted to say a few things.
This weekend I had the incredible privilege of hanging out with some new and old friends at the D-NOW teenage retreat for our church. D-NOW (Disciple Now) is a church camp for kids to communicate in their own groups in a host home with a college-aged leader/teacher and it’s a time for discussing, chilling, worshiping, wrestling (for the male groups), eating, and digging into Bible passages.
This year was particularly different than the past three years I took part in D-NOW. It was more intimate than any other. Maybe it’s because we were all together this year — as one church, without the addition of other churches gathering at a rally. Maybe it’s because I’ve matured since last year and grown onto the comfort of this event. Whatever it is, I tasted a flavor of God’s majesty I never imagined I would. I felt so close to God that it was literally crazy. I even cried a little but that’s another story. I didn’t want to come home the same person; I felt different like a new person. It felt pure. I felt like it didn’t matter what other people said or did because I was marinating in God’s love. I think everyone should do this to improve their relationship with Christ.
So many people tend to overlook the fact that God will be with you through all situations. Even when every other person fails you, God will be there to help and comfort you. He’s your best friend no matter what. If you trust in Him you’ll be changed forever.
Part of one of the songs we sung had a line that caught my ears. It said, “And I will never ever have to be afraid, one thing remains.” It doesn’t take a genius to know that your relationship with Jesus is that “one thing.” I’m a true romantic and a dreamer if there ever was one. And I’ll tell you one thing: God will be with you — and me — through hard times. He’s waiting for you to take notice of Him because he’s doing miracles everywhere around you, warming every heart.
I had an amazing time with teachers, hosts, and friends alike, drinking lots of soda and devouring massive loads of pizza. The high school pastor Grant Janik did a magnificent job ministering to the students. It was spectacular. Lots of people came closer to God and shared their testimonies. And I can honestly tell you… that I’ll never be the same. My relationship with Jesus is closer than ever and I know it will remain that way and grow in the future. If you haven’t given Jesus a try, you should give it a shot. It will change your life forever. I promise.
